Feel like a loooooooong black? Then grab your largest cup and head over to Deloraine – home of The Big Coffee Pot.
At 25m from base to spout, this prominent percolator could please the palate of even the fussiest bean snob. I can barely espresso how excited I was to see it – teehee!
The mammoth mocha-maker, located a couple of kilometres west of town, started life as a functional, yet rather uninspiring, grain silo. Somewhere along the line some funny bugger added a handle and nozzle and – bazinga! – Tasmania had yet another Big Thing.
You’d be a mug to skip it. Y’know, like a coffee mug. Anyway, moving on.
A coffee shop once brewed away near the base of the Pot, but now there are only auto electricians and tyre shops. Come for the colossal Coffee Pot, stay for a competitively-priced calibration.
The Coffee Pot is fun and easy to take take a photo with, but this cultural icon doesn’t look as fresh as it once did.
Unlike other Bigs near Deloraine, such as The Big Tassie Devil, Doug the Dog, and An Odd Blue Head, the monument is tired, rusty, and falling apart. Much like a service station flat white, that leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
Hopefully the owners give it a fresh lick of paint before it’s too latte!
